The image is from a series by Dennis Curry, a member of the College
staff interested in man-powered flight, and intended to symbolise
student aspiration.
The College was an early user of the typeface Univers, one of whose
champions, the Swiss designer Emil Ruder, was nominated a Visiting
Lecturer in the College’s School of Design.
